“Did You Know” a pear ripens from the inside out …Gently press your thumb against the skin of the pear near the stem – if it yields slightly, it is ripe and sweet. If you wait until it is soft around the middle, it may be overripe. To ripen a pear, place in a bowl or paper bag and let stand at room temperature. Check the top of the pear daily for ripeness. Once they reach your preferred level of ripeness, you may refrigerate them to slow further ripening.
